ALPes – Art, Landscape, Place, sound spacealpes_admissions09

Certificate of Advanced Studies / 20 ECTS

ALPes is a research programme specialising in artistic practices in the public space. With its invited speakers (artists, communicators, theorists) ALPes develops theoretical reflect-ion concerning art in the wider context (architecture, suburban areas, landscapes), commission typologies, new reception mechanisms and art in situ.
Thanks to its collaborative ventures with different regional social and cultural partner organisations, the programme is able to carry out full-scale experimentation in the city. In conjunction with institutions such as the Théâtre du Grütli/Grü, the cultural department of Geneva University Hospital (HUG), the City of Geneva’s Contemporary Art Foundation (FMAC) and the Schools of Architecture of Grenoble and Paris-Malaquais, the programme has defined new exploration and interaction processes between art and territory.
Keen to invent new forms of visibility for art, ALPes is a means to encounter, to confront and to debate with the city. Scandinavia Meets Germany: A Forum for Young Leaders

Berlin, May 12th - 16th, 2009

image002
The Institute for Cultural Diplomacy (ICD) is delighted to announce the launch of a new program that we have developed as part of our Young Leaders Forums series. Scandinavia Meets Germany: A Forum for Young Leaders (SMG) will take place in Berlin from May 12th - 16th, 2009. This weeklong event has been designed to explore and improve cultural relations between Scandinavia and Germany. The ICD is now accepting applications for participants with an active interest in the topic.

The Institute for Cultural Diplomacy is an international, not-for-profit, non-governmental organization concerned with the promotion of intercultural understanding. Our activity includes the conducting of research into cultural diplomacy and the organisation of bilateral and multilateral programs and leadership initiatives. To learn more about the ICD, please visit our website:  http://www.culturaldiplomacy.org

The ICD Programs have been developed to facilitate intercultural exchange at the grass roots, civil society and political levels. They bring together Young Leaders from across the world for an analysis of cultural diplomacy, an exploration of the relationship between their cultures, and to create a sustainable network between likeminded individuals. Following the completion of the programs, the participants are encouraged to use this network to develop their own leadership initiatives in the field of cultural diplomacy.

The follow-up initiatives are supported by the ICD through a Facebook online forum and personal consultation, and allow the ICD principals of inter-cultural relations based on dialogue, understanding and trust to spread much further.

Cultural Diplomacy in Europe: A Forum for Young Leaders

Scandinavia Meets Germany: A Forum for Young Leaders was created from the recognition that the countries in Northern Europe, and the relationship between them, are fundamental to the future of Europe as a whole. We are aware of and acknowledge the many and significant cultural differences between the respective countries included under the term Scandinavia. The focus of the forum has been chosen to acknowledge the value in considering the relations between Germany and the respective countries of Scandinavia at the same time, and also to recognize the political and cultural bonds that do exist between the Scandinavian countries.

The Forum will produce a dynamic, informed group of Young Leaders who are aware of the potential for Cultural Diplomacy and have the necessary resources to organize their own initiatives. These Young Leaders will have access to and be part of the Young Leaders Online Network, where they can join the group of SMG alumni, and communicate with participants from other ICD Forums. It is intended that these participants will then cooperate on independent initiatives together in their future. Ultimately the SMG Forum will improve understanding between Scandinavia and Germany, and enhance future cooperation and exchange.

The forum will not only focus on cultural relations, but will also explore economic and political relations between Scandinavia and Germany for two reasons: firstly, it is important that organizations and individuals facilitating cultural exchange are aware of relations in other areas to ensure their programs are successful. Secondly, cultural relations overlap and are linked to political and economic relations in many areas.

Please see the following link for further information, including the application form:

Bergen Biennial Conference September 2009 - Call for Knowledge

Call for Biennial Knowledgeimage001

As scholars and curators have recently acknowledged, the history of exhibitions is both one of the most vital and, paradoxically, ignored narratives of our cultural history. And given the increasing role of biennials and other perennial exhibitions of contemporary art in contemporary culture, it seems all the more necessary to critically examine them today. The impetus to do so now comes in response to the City of Bergen’s plans to establish a biennial for contemporary art in Bergen, Norway, for which the Bergen Kunsthall has taken up the task of organizing an international conference and think tank to study and discuss the status of the biennial as an exhibition model, and also to launch a debate concerning the plans for a biennial in Bergen.

The aims of the Bergen Biennial Conference, poised to be one of the most extensive examinations of the biennial phenomenon to date, are to identify and explore existing ‘biennial knowledge’ from different regions of the world and to incite new critical thinking and writing on recurrent large-scale art exhibitions—their history, socio-political and economical contexts, as well as their impact on artistic and curatorial practices.

Taking research as its starting point, the Bergen Biennial Conference will bring together an international group of curators, critics, artists, and thinkers so as to benefit from their discussions of their findings, and create the occasion to reflect collectively about the practice and potential of biennials as institutions. The event’s discursive format—a combination of symposium and think tank—made up of three days of lectures as well as seminar style workshops with young and leading professionals in the field will be complemented with a two-volume reader. The first volume will include existing seminal texts on biennials from around the world, and a second volume will be composed of newly commissioned texts and a report on the event. On the occasion of the conference, the archive on international biennials that was conceived as part of the 28th São Paolo Biennial and constituting the most comprehensive documentation source on biennials anywhere, will be present and available for consultation in the Bergen Kunsthall.

Call for articles

As the first step in this project, and in order to compile the first volume’s comprehensive reader about biennials, we are calling for already existing (published or unpublished, recent or older) articles from around the world and in any language on the biennial as a format or phenomenon (i.e. not reviews of a particular edition of a biennial but more comprehensive, researched articles on the larger biennial question). We ask that you submit articles that you may have written or know about, which constitute a seminal reflection on the subject of perennial exhibitions. Please include full contact information or publication information for previously published texts. All submissions will be considered for the creation of a biennial bibliography, a new reference tool aiming to be beneficial for all professionals working in the field. A selection of texts will be translated and published, with prior permission of the author.

Please submit articles by 5th of April 2009. Consult the website for further information and updates: www.bbc2009.no

Summer Fashion Program

imageFor students and young designers (on review of their application) who embrace conceptual/speculative fashion design, the Foundation offers the Summer Fashion Program:  a wonderful opportunity to experience four-week intensive programs in Brussels in June and in Paris in July - taught in English by renowned designers and professors from the leading fashion design schools and institutions in Europe.  Space is limited to 20 students internationally for each program.
Brussels / La Cambre Program Description: http://www.arts-of-fashion.org/SummerMasterClass/2009/pages/AoFLCSProgram.html
Paris / Musee des Arts Decoratifs Program Description: http://www.arts-of-fashion.org/SummerMasterClass/2009/pages/AoFDUProgram.html

ARTS OF FASHION SUMMER @ LA CAMBRE | MODE [S]  - BRUSSELS | June 8-July 3, 2009
BODY REVOLUTION - It will take place at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Visuels of La Cambre in the historic Cistercien Abbaye of La Cambre - www.LaCambre.be

The Summer Fashion program at La Cambre will focus on making innovative silhouettes that challenge the conventional approach to body. Taught by the renowned Faculty of the Belgium Fashion School La Cambre,  students will go through 4 projects to build a strong reservoir of shape, form, and design vocabulary.  They will start with the molding technique-exploring the boundaries of body, then the deconstruction-combining selected parts to form a new piece, hand-knitting and crochet, and using craft techniques in an innovative way in each piece created. Students will produce their own iconic look consisting of 3 generic pieces –a cardigan, a skirt, and a shirt.  The silhouettes will be exhibited in the Gallery of the Abbaye of La Cambre. In addition, students can choose to participate in the cultural program offered during the weekends to visit Antwerp, Paris, Bruges, Ghent, and Amsterdam and to attend the Graduation Fashion Shows of La Cambre on Sat. June 6, 2009 and the Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts on Sat. June 13, 2009.

ARTS OF FASHION SUMMER @ MUSEE DES ARTS DECORATIFS - MODE & TEXTILE – PARIS | July 6-31, 2009
SURFACE EVOLUTION - It will take place at the Paris Decorative Arts Museum in the famous Le Louvre Palais - www.lesartsdecoratifs.fr

This is an excellent opportunity to develop students’ creativity in fashion design and gain a deeper understanding of contemporary fashion draping and craft techniques of embellishment. Students will be able to sharpen their skills in embroidery, illustration, applied patterns, inserts, and incorporate them into cutting-edge styles. From the Paris Decorative Arts Museum’s lectures and visits of exhibitions such as the Art Deco Jewelry and Avant Garde, a color study As Red As Possible, a hommage to Toulouse Lautrec and the so expected Madeleine Vionnet Retrospective (1876 -1975), students will draw their inspiration and incorporate innovative techniques in their project.  Students will design and bring together –a dress, a jacket, a skirt/trousers, and accessories to be exhibited at the last day of the program at the exhibition hall in the Museum. In addition, students can choose to participate in the cultural program offered during the weekends and July 14th to visit spots in Paris, Versailles, and Giverny. Students will have the opportunity to do sketching with the fashion illustrator Aurore de La Morinerie - www.auroredelamorinerie.com - during all visits.

http://head.hesge.ch/spip.php?rubrique48&lang=en

The CCC Research-Based Master Programme is addressed to committed students trained in disciplines as various as art, law, sciences, polytechnics, humanities, politics, economics and transdisciplinary practices. Professionals and lifelong learners are welcome.

Fully bilingual (French and English), the Programme offers a strong intellectual and conceptual foundation in critical thinking. The students are trained to become independent researchers capable of conceiving innovative solutions to issues related to a variety of fields such as Identity Micropolitics, Critical Theory, Political Ecology, Cyberculture, European Syntax, Cosmopolitics and the Politics of Reconciliation, Future Studies. The Programme emphasizes research training and initiates projects in cooperation with transcontinental partner self-organizations and institutions. It concentrates on developing a prospective PhD seminar in art praxis.
As an equal opportunity education programme, CCC welcomes applications from individuals who will contribute to its diversity.
———–
TRANS – ART EDUCATION
http://head.hesge.ch/spip.php?rubrique237&lang=en

The programme is based on the student’s artistic experience. Under the leadership of art and theory specialists, this mental exercise aims at translating, transcribing and transferring one’s own artistic experience and to share or propose it to others. In fact, it is to answer the question: “How, on the basis of my own work and my relation to creation, can I guide children or adults and establish teaching and workshops where they can practice creation and find their own forms of expression?”
Audience: All students who, on the basis of their basic artistic principles, wish to explore the broadest fields of artistic and cultural transmission: editing, interactions with the population, art and/or heritage mediation workshops in an associative or institutional environment. The TRANS programme also opens the doors to teaching.
The courses are mainly given in French
———–
WORK.MASTER – CONTEMPORARY ARTISTIC PRACTICES
http://head.hesge.ch/spip.php?rubrique236&lang=en

WORK.MASTER is structured around the embodiment of a personal project on a 1:1 scale.
It has its place on the Geneva art scene; a scene broadly filled with cross-cutting concerns and internationally open.
