We would be grateful is you could inform your students of a unique opportunity to take part in our university-credited program, at the ArtMill Center for Sustainable Creativity in Central Europe, this summer.
Bohemian Workshops is a 3-week immersion program that explores the diverse intersection of art and sustainability. Based on the guild models of the Renaissance, this unique educational opportunity is presented as an alternative to the conventional classroom or studio experience. Participants work closely with mentors to develop critical perspectives about their chosen subject while gaining awareness of the contemporary culture of Czech Republic and issues of sustainability as related to creativity and the environment.
We can gear the program to the specific needs of each institution’s curriculum. Our specialty is pulling in local professionals and experts in various fields not only in the arts, but environmental sciences and other outdoor activities geared towards sustainability. Because we are small, the teachers get to work closely with students, often one-on-one.
This Workshop experience is appropriate for students interested in creativity and sustainability in the broadest sense: artists, thinkers, writers, scientists, environmentalists, musicians, theorists, educators and creative practitioners. Arts Administration and Visual Culture students are also encouraged to apply. Credits are available through our affiliation with Anglo-American University in Prague. The program begins in Prague with a cultural survey of the Czech capital, and continues at ArtMill Center for Sustainable Creativity, located in a rural farming community in Southern Bohemia. The program concludes with a professional exhibition of participant work held at Galerie Califia, known in the region for its program of promoting; and exhibiting contemporary art.
A special workshop on hazardous chemicals and wastes, in conjunction with ArtMill’s affiliation with the United Nations Safe Planet Campaign will be offered as part of our “Art and Social Practice” curriculum. We will be building a ship to sail on the River Vltava this summer, which will stop at various electronic waste recycle centers, and eventually end up at the island where theRespect World Music Festival takes place June 15-17th in the heart of the city. Students learn important environmental issues and sustainable art practices in realizing potential social change.
